Lesson Addresses the anatomy of the neurovestibular
system and concept of balance. Builds upon the experience
of astronauts in microgravity, where there is no up or down.
For more reading on the vestibular system, we recommend the
following link: The
Vestibular System
Laboratory Addresses the concept of balance by allowing students to experience
for themselves a mild challenge to their vestibular adaptation
abilities. Index cards with number series are waved in front
of student partners, who have to decide at which speed the
card becomes unreadable.
Visuals The PowerPoint presentation, created by master educator Murray
Perl, contains detailed anatomical drawings and diagrams that
will aid students in understanding the sometimes complex anatomical
structures in the neurovestibular system.
